■도나 서머(Donna Summer, 1948년 12월 31일 ~ 2012년 5월 17일)는 미국의 싱어송라이터이자 배우이다. 최대 히트곡〈Hot Stuff〉등으로 디스코 시대를 이끈 가수 중 하나로 꼽히며, 그래미상을 5회 수상하였다.

■가스펠 가수 마할리아 잭슨을 존경했던 서머는 처음에 교회에서 노래하다가 후에 보스턴의 클럽에서 노래를 불렀다.

 

그녀는 18세 때 뮤지컬 〈헤어 Hair>의 독일어 공연에 합류했으며, 유럽에 머물면서 빈 민속오페라단에서 일했고, 〈가스펠과 쇼보트 Godspell and Showboat〉에서 공연했다.

 

그녀는 배우 헬무트 소머와 결혼했으며, 이혼 후에도 그의 이름을 영어식으로 바꾸어 계속 사용했다. 독일 뮌헨의 뮤직랜드 스튜디오에서 일할 때, 서머는 제작자이자 작곡가인 조지오 모로더와 피트 벨로트를 만났다. 세 사람은 힘을 합쳐 몇 곡의 유로팝을 히트시키고 역사적인 싱글 앨범 〈당신을 사랑하기 위한 사랑 Love to Love You Baby〉(1975)을 제작했다. 이 곡은 서머가 미국에서 히트시킨 10여 곡 중 첫 곡이었는데, 대부분은 카사블랑카 레코드에서 나왔다. 클럽용으로 만들어진 이 노래는 관능적 분위기로, 17분짜리의 12인치 디스코 믹스로 소개되었다.

 

서머는 그 후 14년 동안 〈사랑을 느껴요 I Feel Love〉, 〈나쁜 소녀들 Bad Girls>, 〈그녀는 돈 때문에 열심히 일해요 She Works Hard for the Money〉를 포함하여 대부분의 곡들을 직접 또는 공동으로 작사했다. 그녀가 크게 히트시킨 곡으로는 〈맥아더 공원 MacArthur Park〉, 〈멋진 사람 Hot Stuff〉과 바브라 스트라이전드와의 듀엣곡인 〈눈물은 이제 그만 No More Tears(Enough Is Enough)〉, 영화 〈신나는 금요일 Thank God It’s Friday〉(1978)의 주제곡인 〈마지막 춤 Last Dance〉 등이 있다.
